  • Approximately 3,092 car accident fatalities were caused by distracted drivers
  • According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 75% of all drivers admitted to talking and texting while driving
  • Motorcycle accident fatalities increased, resulting in 4,502 deaths in 2010
  • Pedestrian accident fatalities increased, resulting in 4,280 deaths in 2010
  • While fatal car accidents decreased, the number of car accidents resulting in injuries increased 1.9%
  • Approximately 51% of people killed in car accidents were not wearing their seat belt
  • Car accident fatalities in rural areas decreased 6.7%, while car accidents in urban areas increased 0.3%
