Lead Poisoning | Video Transcript

CHARLES ROCK: Lead poisoning is an entirely preventable childhood disease. Lead poisoning happens usually in older housing stock where the paint has been allowed to deteriorate, crack and chip.

The laws in New York are fairly strict on landlords because a child not knowing better will often put paint chips in their mouth or will mouth painted surfaces that are coated with lead paint because it tastes good.

The harm caused by lead poisoning is much greater for children than it is for adults. Oftentimes, the problems that it causes don’t show up for years. The most serious consequence of childhood lead poisoning is the inability of the child to perform in school and perform academically the way he or she otherwise would have.

We’ve been prosecuting lead poisoning cases for almost 20 years. They’re complicated cases that require experience and expertise.
